Driveways News – Do Your Research!

Choosing the wrong paviors could leave you with a sinking feeling, as paving failure can occur at any time if correct procedures are not adhered to.

The stability of any paving surface is only dependent if the right process has been followed. Compacting sands within the foundations and preventing water penetration are fundamental in preventing structure collapse. So doing your homework before choosing your next contractor is a must.

MD Paving are a local, trusted company with over 35 years experience in the industry. We are proud to be one of Plasmor’s leading paving specialists and our outstanding reviews show that we’re highly recommended and experts in our field.

Summer is nearly here – so how can you apply a patio upgrade to your outside area?

Gorgeous Patio Upgrade
Decorated seating in a patio area.

Patio Upgrade – Here at MD Paving we just know how much you’ll love using your outdoor space for entertaining. Or maybe for long relaxing nights, parties and get-togethers with family and friends. So whether your patio is just plain or dated, we have some great suggestions for ways in which you can patio upgrade and make the most of your space.

Upcycle Old Furniture

If you have any old pieces of furniture, why not consider them for your patio upgrade? There are so many ways in which you can convert them into something wonderful – sometimes all you need is a little imagination and a fresh coat of paint.

Indoor Accessories

We know many accessories aren’t waterproof, but you can still bring them out to entertain your guests when the weather starts to rain. On a beautiful day, why don’t you grab some blankets and cushions and add some decoration.

Invest in Outdoor Rugs

For a great splash of colour, add a patio rug. Choose one that is made for outdoor weather and you’ll be sure to make the whole area more inviting.

Add some privacy to your patio upgrade

You can easily do this, by investing in some outdoor fabric. It looks fantastic if done right and can be hung from an overhang, attached to wooden beams or even incorporated into your pergola structure. It will instantly add some intimacy to your outdoor space.

Why not paint over old brick?

Brick is a wonderful background material, very strong and sturdy and looks great in certain settings. It can look even better if you give it a fresh coat of paint, but make sure you use something high quality and pick a shade that is classic and will compliment your area.

Set the Mood with lighting

There is more you can do with lighting than standard wall or flood lights. Opt for fairy lights or a string of edison-style lightbulbs which you can hang around your patio edges. You can drape these around pergolas, or patio edges which can really create a magical feel. Another great idea are large pendant lights, hung from shepherd’s hooks. Or hang lanterns from tree branches, place on tables or underneath seating to give real depth and warmth to your outdoor space.

Colourful planters are a big WOW

Bright coloured pots with lush greenery will look just fab in your patio. Remember to water them regularly, or for added ease false plants can look just as good.

Ever thought about a fountain?

If you have space on your driveway or patio area, then why not invest in a water fountain to add overall ambience. Use pavers or stones to create a base and you can decorate with mosaic tiles. You’ll love listening to the constant trickle of water – very relaxing!

Music is a must!

It’s pretty essential to have the right tunes whilst your entertaining, so why not install some outdoor speakers into your patio so that you can listen any time you want. Make sure you use wireless speakers that link to your system inside. Playing music when entertaining can be really connective, as it turns a social setting and lifts everyone’s mood.

Create a focal point for your patio upgrade

Last but not least, choose an area where you want everyone’s eye to go to. You could add a bold set of chairs, a gazebo or fire pit and you’ll have an amazing entertaining space, that will be the envy of every neighbour. All you need now is to make sure you have fabulous paving!

Driveways Case Study

Driveways Case Study for a Property in Roundhay, Leeds

This Driveways Case Study focuses on Mick Durkin, owner and director of MD Paving Ltd. He was approached by a client in Roundhay, Leeds who wanted to refurbish their existing driveway. A perfect job which we have used for this Driveways Case Study.

The owners of this large detached house on West Park Crescent needed a complete overhaul of their driveway area. With space to have 4 to 5 cars parked comfortably when guests came to stay, the old driveway was suffering from mismatched tarmac and paving. In addition, there was no structure to protect planting or an efficient system for drainage.

Driveways Case Study Base Layer

Design

The team at MD Paving had the task of re-paving this huge driveway, but still, compliment the features of the gardens and boundary wall. The first step was to remove 180 tonnes of the garden, prior to laying a sub-base for the whole area to ensure enough load-bearing capacity. In addition, the team fitted an effective soak away and drainage system to prevent any flooding. To match the tone of the house, the team used beautiful Premia Granite Stone, complemented with Raj Green Indian Stone. Hundreds of setts were late to cover this large area.

Product Used

MD Paving have long been a fan of Plaspave products, which they feel is the ideal material for a large project and to showcase our driveways Leeds case study. Granite especially has been used as a paving material for hundreds of years due to its hard wearing qualities. The Premia version is a perfect choice as it has great texture and mottled shades. The Indian stone is great for the finishing touches and is attractive paving for both traditional and modern homes.
