Two driveways were installed using Sorrento Sarsen Stone and were connected by a pathway in Kandla Grey Indian Stone. Steps were created with KL Kerb Stone, which also serves as an edge restraint.

Driveways Case Study for a Property in Roundhay, Leeds

This Driveways Case Study focuses on Mick Durkin, owner and director of MD Paving Ltd. He was approached by a client in Roundhay, Leeds who wanted to refurbish their existing driveway. A perfect job which we have used for this Driveways Case Study.

The owners of this large detached house on West Park Crescent needed a complete overhaul of their driveway area. With space to have 4 to 5 cars parked comfortably when guests came to stay, the old driveway was suffering from mismatched tarmac and paving. In addition, there was no structure to protect planting or an efficient system for drainage.

Design

The team at MD Paving had the task of re-paving this huge driveway, but still, compliment the features of the gardens and boundary wall. The first step was to remove 180 tonnes of the garden, prior to laying a sub-base for the whole area to ensure enough load-bearing capacity. In addition, the team fitted an effective soak away and drainage system to prevent any flooding. To match the tone of the house, the team used beautiful Premia Granite Stone, complemented with Raj Green Indian Stone. Hundreds of setts were late to cover this large area.

Product Used

MD Paving have long been a fan of Plaspave products, which they feel is the ideal material for a large project and to showcase our driveways Leeds case study. Granite especially has been used as a paving material for hundreds of years due to its hard wearing qualities. The Premia version is a perfect choice as it has great texture and mottled shades. The Indian stone is great for the finishing touches and is attractive paving for both traditional and modern homes.

Result

MD Paving has achieved a superb driveway with a combination of visual impact and structural security. It takes skill to make sure that below ground works can withstand plenty of use and incorporate the proper drainage systems. Driveway Repairs – With Spring in sight, the melting snow can, unfortunately, reveal damage to your driveway. Deciding on whether to repair or replace your driveway can be perplexing, but most repairs should be left to the professionals! That’s where MD Paving can help.

1. Understanding what the driveway damage is!

Understanding driveway repairs and the cause of winter damage can prevent it happening in the future. The damage usually occurs due to the plummeting drop in temperatures, the cycle of freeze and thaw and the use of chemical melting agents, such as sodium chloride. This is extremely damaging to both concrete and asphalt and can also weaken the joints in your block paving. Rock salt can also seep into cracks, corroding and weakening steel rods used to reinforce the area. Freezing water will also cause damage as ice expands and increases existing cracks, causing the surface to break away. Snow/metal shovels can also cause significant damage by dislodging already loose asphalt and stone, creating craters which are hard to fix. Where possible, try to use plastic shovels for clearing snow.

2. Know your driveways lifespan

An asphalt driveway can have a lifespan of approximately 20 years, with concrete versions lasting easily 25 years, but will need to be maintained to achieve this. If your driveway is heavily damaged and coming to the end of its useful life, you may want to consider a new hardtop. Driveway repairs may only be a short-term solution. A high-quality sealer should be applied every 3 years to protect the surface from the adverse weather, including UV rays.

3. Know when to call in the professionals

4. Remember to keep your driveway in a good condition

When it does snow, try and move it as soon as possible. Once it becomes compacted and forced into cracks, problems start to occur. If you need to gain traction, try to use sand instead. Once the snow has melted, we will be happy to advise you what sealers to use to keep your new driveway in tip-top condition. Just remember that a proper maintenance routine is required, no matter which driveway you choose. This will prevent expensive repair and help your driveway to last for many years to come.
